The Director of Employment Services provides leadership and oversight for employment-related functions across the organization. The home hotel role is directly responsible for recruiting and onboarding qualified personnel, driving retention strategies, and ensuring compliance with all federal and state employment laws, including wage and hour administration, benefits, workers’ compensation, and unemployment services. At the corporate level, the position supports the creation and administration of the company’s visa program, leads HR system onboarding and training for newly transitioned hotels, and assists with the development and implementation of consistent processes, procedures, and compliance standards.

The Director also partners with senior leadership to analyze workforce data, monitor KPIs, and advance continuous improvement initiatives, serving as the link between hotel-level execution and corporate strategy. Working in close collaboration with the HR Leadership Team, the Director of Employment Services plays a key role in fostering a positive employee experience. Exempt associates are expected to work as much of each workday as necessary to complete their job responsibilities.


JOB FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:

  • Lead and manage the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to ensure attraction and retention of top talent.
  • Assist Avion HR Leaders with talent acquisition and onboarding new properties as assigned by the Corporate Human Resources Director.
  • Travel to other Avion properties to assist with new property onboarding as assigned by the Corporate Human Resources Director and approved by the General Manager of the Windsor Court.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Assists HR Leadership on employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action.
  • Partner with department leaders to align staffing strategies with organizational goals. 
  • Monitor HR metrics and generate reports to inform data-driven decisions.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to HR team members supporting employment services functions.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Avion Hospitality standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with Avion Hospitality dress code and wearing a name tag when working (per brand standards).
  • Comply with and ensure adherence to Avion Hospitality’s standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Comply with certification requirements as applicable for the position, to include: Food Handlers, Alcohol awareness, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. Be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow Associates.
  • Direct and supervise Human Resources staff.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the Human Resources budget.
  • Maintain thorough and current knowledge of all Human Resources/Associate regulations and laws, and ensure that the property complies.
  • Participate in EEO, Unemployment, Wage & Hour, Worker’s Compensation, OSHA, ADA, Immigration and Naturalization Service hearings. Implement policies and programs to guarantee compliance.
  • Communicate new policies, information, and directives to all Associates.
  • Instruct staff in the interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Ensure staff compliance with HR policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor recruitment, screening, and reference checking of all non-exempt personnel.
  • Recruit, interview, and recommend all exempt personnel.
  • Set up, approve, and maintain all wage and salary programs, including performance evaluations.
  • Recommend all Associate transitions, i.e., new hire, transfer, promotion, etc. Assist in creating a positive team-oriented environment that focuses on the guest through Associate development and motivation.
  • Maintain an open-door policy.
  • Monitor and analyze turnover statistics.
  • Ensure compliance with all HR-related SOPs.
  • Participate in and monitor the effectiveness of committees.
  • Practice positive Associate relations, including coaching, counseling, and discipline.
  • Participate in and monitor orientation programs.
  • Develop managers for future advancement.
  • Assist HR Leadership with ensuring managers are using coaching, counseling, and discipline to address issues/concerns.
  • Condense and expedite paperwork, develop internal communications, and improve record-keeping.
  • Manage resume and application files.
  • Develop and monitor recruitment resources.
  • Attend meetings/training as required by management.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management. 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a HR leadership role in a hotel or a related industry; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and three or more years of related experience.
  • College coursework in a related field is helpful.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of employment laws are helpful.
  • Must be proficient in Windows Operating Systems.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must routinely meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc., from disparate sources and consider, adjust, or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying, and resolving the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
