This position is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Department of Corrections’ technology systems, including inmate tablets, communications, and security systems. The Corrections Technology Support Specialist ensures operational integrity of hardware, software, and data systems, provides technical training to staff, and serves as a liaison with vendors and outside agencies. The role requires problem-solving, independent analysis, customer service, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Examples of Work:Applicants must be able to perform the following tasks (not all-inclusive):
- Establish and maintain user accounts, roles, and logins for DOC technology systems.
- Manage inmate tablet systems, including hardware maintenance, software support, and user training.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and network issues with tablets, communications equipment, and cameras.
- Coordinate with vendors on maintenance, installations, and upgrades for DOC systems such as JMS, Livescan, JPICS, Polycoms, and digital security cameras.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and ensure documentation of all repairs and service.
- Provide training to DOC personnel on proper use of technology systems.
- Generate reports and system audits (e.g., JMS queries, SQL scripts, inventory records).
- Provide technical support for inmate video visitation, telephone systems, grievances, and records requests.
- Coordinate telecommunication and radio communications equipment maintenance and serve as liaison with outside agencies.
- Maintain system security, including access restrictions, Active Directory account management, and audit logs.
- Assist with disaster preparedness and recovery plans for JMS and other DOC systems.
- Provide requested records, video, or phone data to authorized individuals following proper documentation procedures.
- Working knowledge of enterprise IT systems, database management (SQL preferred), and Microsoft products (Windows, Office, Active Directory).
- Experience in troubleshooting computer hardware, tablets, communications equipment, and A/V systems.
- Ability to train users and prepare technical documentation.
- Familiarity with corrections-specific systems (JMS, VINE, Keefe, Polycoms, security cameras) preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing operational needs.
- Two years of verifiable experience in IT support, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and networks.
- One year of experience with inventory tracking and user account management.
- Experience providing technical support in a high-volume environment.
- Preferred: CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification; prior corrections or law enforcement IT experience.
- Must be available to work during emergency declarations.
