Description
Purpose of Position:??
Manage shipyard painting operations, equipment, and supplies. Preparation and coating of museum vessels of all types. Work with other shipyard areas as required. Perform daily checks on waterfront vessels and assist with waterfront logistics.
Essential Functions:
Maintain inventory of painting and coating supplies needed for current, ongoing, and future shipyard projects
Execute all aspects of vessel maintenance and preservation.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of paint shop, and around all vessels and equipment within the project area
Maintain full environmental and safety compliance in all vessel maintenance activities
Plan and participate in paint / varnish maintenance of masts and spars
Operate work boats and supply support services for the Museum as needed
Assist shipyard documentation team with accurate and timely records of vessel maintenance
Work with shipyard director and project manager to plan, coordinate, and supervise volunteer activities related to paint shop operations
Support shipwrights and others in planning, selection, and application of coatings to various restoration projects
Maintain working knowledge of paint types, applications, and best practices for preparation and power washing techniques
Participate in hauling, launching, and movement of all watercraft
Work as needed in other areas of the Watercraft area including vessel operations and shipwright work.
All other projects as assigned
Requirements
Qualifications:
Five years’ experience with traditional and modern vessel maintenance and coatings.
Extensive experience with small boat operations including boat handling and docking
