JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Benefits and Pension Consultant.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Benefits and Manager, Pensions, this position is responsible for providing expert advisory services and support in the administration of employee pension and benefits programs. This role ensures that all programs are managed in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements, while delivering exceptional service to members and stakeholders. The Consultant will work closely with employees, vendors, and internal teams to resolve issues, communicate program details, and guide members through complex processes.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

Advisory & Support:

  • Provide guidance and advice to employees regarding pension and benefits plan options, eligibility, and processes. Respond to inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

Administration:

  • Oversee the day-to-day administration of pension and benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, terminations, and retirements. Ensure accurate record-keeping and timely processing of transactions.

Data Management:

  • Maintain and update databases with member information, including data from third-party plan administrators. Ensure data integrity and confidentiality.

Calculations:

  • Perform pension-related calculations, such as service credits, retirement estimates, and benefit entitlements. Communicate results clearly to members.

Customer Service:

  • Act as a primary point of contact for members and vendors, offering excellent customer service and building positive relationships.

Education & Communication:

  • Educate members on plan features, administrative processes, and changes to programs. Prepare and deliver presentations or written materials as needed.

Compliance:

  • Ensure all pension and benefits programs comply with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Assist with audits and reporting as required.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline administrative processes and improve the member experience.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pension and/or benefits administration or consulting.
  • Strong understanding of pension and benefits programs, including regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and service providers is an asset.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
