Are you ready to shape the future of energy? We are looking for a strategic and curious Senior Financial Analyst to join our Commercial Investments team – a small, high-performing group within Emera Finance focused on evaluating strategic opportunities and building robust financial models. This role offers the unique opportunity to work on high-impact initiatives that drive major business decisions and long -term growth across our group of companies.
Reporting to the Manager, Commercial Investments, you will collaborate with teams across Emera to deliver critical financial insights and support key corporate priorities. Your work will help guide investments and contribute to the direction of our business.
Key elements of the role include:
- Work closely with Emera’s Corporate Development and Strategy teams to evaluate investment opportunities by building flexible, sophisticated financial models and preparing supporting presentation materials for the executive team and Board of Directors
- Support various Emera Finance teams by preparing financial models and analysis and other materials to support valuations, credit analysis and forecasting requirements
- Assist Emera affiliates in their review of significant investment decisions by providing financial model reviews and stress testing conclusions
- Conduct extensive quantitative and qualitative research pertaining to Emera, the utility industry, and its peers
Who we are looking for:
As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:
- A post secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other related or similar fields. Candidates should possess or are progressing towards a post-secondary financial designation (CPA, CFA, CBV)
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least five (5) years of experience in finance-related positions, including three to five (3-5) years of direct financial modeling experience and a thorough understanding of accounting and financial concepts
- You have strong quantitative skills, possess advanced Excel skills and are comfortable building and analyzing complex financial models
- You are a proven team player and can interact and work with people with a variety of backgrounds at different levels within the organization
- You possess strong analytical, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, are detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- You value continued education, can grasp new concepts quickly and apply them to your work
- Experience with or exposure to utility sector is considered an asset
