The Occupational Therapist is a licensed health professional who is part of the rehabilitation team in the Department of Health and reports to the Qikiqtani Regional Rehabilitation Manager. The position plans, develops, organizes, delivers and evaluates Occupational Therapy services to all populations in the Baffin Region. 

Responsibilities

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for decisions regarding all aspects of occupational therapy client care, assessment and treatment programs, as well as clinical supervision of Community Therapy Assistants. The position develops and delivers skills training to families, communities, home-care workers, community members, organizations and other health professionals. The position will also maintain close case management, teaching and informing relationships with heath care providers and educators such as physicians, nurses, community health representatives, home & community care staff, teachers, 11 Community Health Centers, two elders’ residents, one continuing care facility, three group homes, schools, day cares and in private homes.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent along with registration with a Canadian Provincial College of Occupational Therapy or equivalent.  One (1) one year of clinical experience is also required.  This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
