Job Description:The Halton Healthcare Services’ Sleep Laboratory at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital provides sleep studies designed to investigate various sleep related disorders, including sleep apnea and insomnia.
The Sleep Laboratory will consist of six simulated bedrooms which have been furnished with comfortable beds and decorated to provide a home-like cozy atmosphere. Each room also has an infrared video camera and a variety of medical monitoring equipment which are connected to a state-of-the-art computerized sleep diagnostic system in the control room.
Patients coming for a sleep test are connected to a wide range of monitoring equipment and settled in for the night in one of the bedrooms. A Polysomnographic Technologist observes patients during the entire night on a monitor in the control centre while the diagnostic equipment records a wide range of data. This data is then scored, analyzed and interpreted to generate a comprehensive sleep study report
A variety of tests may be performed to evaluate possible sleep disorders, such as insomnia, hypersomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, obstructive sleep apnea, narcolepsy and behavior disturbances during sleep.
- Explain in detail testing procedures to patients and quickly put them at ease and reduce anxiety.
- Register patient demographics.
- Gather and analyze patient information.
- Assessment of patient medical history.
- Follow procedural protocols for the proper performance of sleep testing, including CPAP Titrations, Split Studies and MSLTs.
- Prepare, maintain and calibrate equipment required.
- Score Sleep Study data and produce reports for physicians.
- Adhere to strict infection and disease control protocols.
- Familiar and proficient with current Natus SleepWorks Software System.
- Must have successful completion of an accredited educational program following one of the RPSGT Eligibility Pathways.
- Post-secondary school graduate.
- Must hold current Certification with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists and be a member in good standing with 5 or more years of experience.
- Must have current BCLS and renew annually.
- Able to accurately score and analyze sleep data in accordance with AASM guidelines for quality.
- Competence performing various Therapeutic Titrations including CPAP, BiPap, ASV, Oral Appliances.
- Maintain professional development and comply with the regulations, laws, and guidelines and standards.
- Able to meet the physical demands of the job.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record.
Hours: Sunday to Friday Night Shifts (2000-0600) and 4 hour remote scoring shifts. Subject to change based on operational requirements
Salary: $37.93 to $51.763 per hour
