Employment Status: Permanent Full-time (CUPE 5348)
Hours: 35 hours per week with ability to work all shifts - days, evenings, and weekends
Primary Location: Sixteen Mile Branch. Travel required to all sites and external events.

Oakville Public Library is seeking someone who is dedicated to service excellence, demonstrates curiosity and a learning mindset, fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing, and is a passionate advocate for literacy and innovation in public libraries.

Reporting to branch leadership, the Creation Specialist will build digital literacy skills within the community through the daily operation of creative spaces, developing and delivering technology-based programming and outreach, and supporting all library locations to engage customers with existing and emerging technologies.

The new Sixteen Mile branch will be 18,000+ square feet, and offer a variety of work, study, collaboration and creative spaces; reading and conversation areas; children’s spaces; a teen area; programming spaces; robust print and media collections; public access computers, Wi-Fi and creative equipment. It will be uniquely positioned to deliver on the OPL’s strategic pillar to promote digital discovery. With an exciting array of creative spaces, this branch will inspire and support customers to explore technology, engage with creative equipment, and build essential digital skills.

What you'll do

As a Creation Specialist you will:
• Foster the building of digital literacy skills within the community through daily operation of creative spaces, programming, outreach, and community partnerships. Engage with customers to promote and support the use of creative spaces technology, equipment and software.
• Greet customers and proactively offer customer-first service across all interactions, promoting OPL services with enthusiasm, and actively creating connections through roving service.
• Develop learning objectives and use outcome-based evaluations to measure the impact of creative spaces programs and services within the community.
• Develop, plan, host, and implement inclusive and specialized programs focused on creative technology and arts, in-person and virtually that meet the diverse interests and needs of the community.  
• Support continued expansion of digital discovery within the library, including but not limited to producing instructional videos for creative programs and marketing, producing and maintaining program outlines and associated resources, and analyzing community profiles to develop and deliver programs that meet the needs of the community.
• Facilitate individual and small-group training, learning, and support for use of creative technology, equipment, and software. Tailoring approach to meet individual customer needs and skill levels. 
• Provide complex technical support with specialized knowledge of diverse technologies, equipment, and software, and connect customers with appropriate resources to support their interests or resolve issues. 
• Understand and promote knowledge of OPL's collections, spaces, programs, services, and technologies. Accurately interpret OPL policies and procedures, and leverage key messaging to guide customer interactions and service delivery.
• Train and support staff to utilize creative technologies, equipment, and software within branch services, programming, and outreach.
• Create and maintain program and training-related documentation, including processes, procedures, training resources, videos, and presentations. 
• Monitor, assess, and evaluate professional and community trends relating to creative technologies. Identify and recommend equipment to improve programs, internal workflows, and expand services and resources.  
• Collect and analyze relevant statistical data and metrics. Prepare written reports and presentations based on recommendations and findings.
• Research, establish, maintain, and evaluate partnerships within the community that are beneficial to both the library and residents. Develop partner programming that enhances OPL's ability to reach and meet community needs.  
• Effectively communicate with branch and cross-functional teams to create awareness of creative spaces, services, programs, and learning objectives.
• Maintain and troubleshoot creative technology, equipment, and software. Source and purchase consumables, supplies, and replacement parts as needed. 
• Foster continuous learning by engaging in professional development activities, participating in working groups, networking with other library systems and community organizations, applying new knowledge and skills to enhance job performance.
• Work in compliance with the provisions of the AODA customer service standard, Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, other relevant health and safety legislation, and the OPL’s Health & Safety Program.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Your experience and educational background:
• Related post-secondary degree or diploma in visual arts/design, digital media, or computer science; or will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum two (2) years related experience in delivering intermediate to advanced instruction within the field of art and/or technology. 
• Experience developing and leading programs, technology instruction, or training instruction related to the use of technology.
• Experience using both Windows and iOS operating systems.
• Expertise with digital media, including photo, video, and sound editing. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Illustrator.
• Experience with existing and emerging technologies and creative arts, such as laser cutting, 3D design and printing, fibre or textile arts, sound recording and video editing, coding, gaming, robotics, animation, and virtual or augmented reality.
