Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Technology Portfolio and Planning to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial in driving the strategic planning and execution of our technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with our business goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technology portfolio management, strategic planning, communications and project management. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

Technology Portfolio Development 

  • Oversee the development and governance of technology portfolio management tools, processes, and frameworks. 

  • Accountable for the definition of a prioritization framework to ensure the most critical projects are given precedence. 

 

Community Engagement:  

  • Foster strong business collaboration to align technology initiatives with organizational needs. 

  • Develop and execute a robust communications strategy on behalf of the technology department news and events, keeping stakeholders informed and engaged.  

 

Technology Delivery Health:  

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive enterprise-wide technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic goals. 

  • Work in collaboration with delivery teams to monitor and report on the progress of technology projects, identifying and addressing any risks or issues. 

  • Ensure effective resource allocation and capacity management across technology projects including identifying resource optimization opportunities.  

  • Provide continuous reporting from project or initiative inception to launch and benefits realization.  

  • Facilitate cross-project dependency reviews across technology driven initiatives.  

 

Continuous Improvement:  

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the technology portfolio and planning team. 

  • Lead and mentor a team of technology professionals, providing guidance and performance coaching. 

  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices, incorporating relevant insights into the technology portfolio and planning processes 

 

First Year Deliverables:

  • Establish a unified, enterprise-wide project intake framework by consolidating existing intake processes across departments, driving consistency and improving visibility into Westjet's initiatives.
  • Develop and launch a strategic communication plan to educate and engage stakeholders across all levels of the business on technology and project-related topics. Channels may include digital newsletters, internal events, and tech talks to foster awareness and alignment.
  • Define and implement governance processes within the ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) module or other portfolio management tools, ensuring robust standards and operational efficiency across the technology portfolio.
  • Deliver actionable reporting and data visualizations that provide clear insights into the health, progress, and performance of the technology project portfolio, enabling data-driven decision-making.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred. 

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in technology portfolio management, strategic planning, and project management. 

  • Exceptional Business Analysis skills 

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing technology projects and initiatives. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. 

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software. 

  • PMP, PgMP, or similar certification is a plus. 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team. 

  • In-depth knowledge of technology trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in technology management.
