Position Duties
The Gym Monitor supervises play, enforces rules and court etiquette, promotes sportsmanship, and manages equipment.
- This job is primarily performed in an inside environment.
- Requires standing and walking for long periods.
- The incumbent is typically exposed to noises and interruptions, such as bouncing balls, sudden loud noises, multiple voices, and yelling in a crowded environment.
- Greet the public and provide information and assistance regarding schedules, registration, program descriptions, and other general information over the phone and in person.
- The flow of work and character of duties involve typical mental and visual attention most or all the time.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required, making up more than 50% of the work period.
- Physical exertion may be lifting sporting equipment (volleyball nets, table tennis tables, etc.) and items weighing less than 40 pounds.
- Light custodial duties required.
The Complex Monitor supervises THPRD sports complexes, checks user permits, and maintains site safety and cleanliness.
- This job is primarily performed outside, including excessive temperatures and inclement weather.
- This job assignment can be at an outdoor complex or a BSD school gymnasium.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
- The incumbent is typically exposed to noises and interruptions, such as bouncing balls, sudden loud noises, multiple voices, and yelling in a crowded environment.
- Physical exertion may be lifting sporting equipment weighing less than 40 pounds.
- Light custodial duties required.
Estimated schedule:
- The Gym/Complex Monitor is typically scheduled for 3 to 29 hours per week.
- Part-time employees work variable hours across different locations, which may include evenings and weekends, and are limited to less than 1,560 hours per year.
- Opportunities for cross-training are available in roles such as: front desk support, concessions, and program leader.
Minimum Qualifications
Other Requirements:
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification OR ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Staff are not permitted to participate in drop-in programs while on duty.
- Must successfully complete District safety training before beginning duties.
