ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Serves as a primary liaison between the City of Lansing and its citizens, contractors, state agencies and other localities to provide general information about City projects and other public information.
- Serves as the public’s initial point of contact for questions about City projects and pertinent issues.
- Prepares media releases and other public notices related to City projects and pertinent issues.
- Coordinates governmental affairs information as it pertains to the City of Lansing, and maintains contacts with state and federal lawmakers.
- Operates the City’s Government social media and other resident facing information channels and uses video editing production software. Coordinates use of the channel by authorized entities. Develops and advertises programming. Produces City Council meeting videos. Takes photographs or video at public events.
- Produces weekly and monthly audio and video content for City communication channels.
- Coordinates the development and distribution of information regarding programs, services, activities, issues, policies, and procedures of all City Departments.
- Serves as the City point of contact of Information Technology needs. Works closely with IT contractors. Solves minor IT issues, administers email accounts, researches and coordinates IT needs and a replacement schedule.
- Coordinates the research, data collection, and preparation of communications, reports, and other written or visual material needed for public presentations, brochures, flyers, news releases, reports, special projects, etc.
- Makes presentations about the City and its activities to clubs and other groups.
- Writes articles, reports, editorials, and other material.
- Leads the production of the quarterly Lansing Connection citywide newsletter and other publications.
- Serves as City website webmaster and updates and maintains the City Website and social media outlets.
- Maintains documentation of public interaction and activities.
SECONDARY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Communicates with Department Heads, City Administrator, project contractors, state and other local representatives as well as affected private citizens to remain current with project progress.
- Provides project status update briefings to the City Administrator, City Council and other groups both public and private, as needed.
- Works cooperatively with City staff, project contractors, state, regional, and other local representatives to find solutions to challenges affecting local businesses and residents. This includes serving on committees of local and regional interest.
- Assists with the implementation of business programs.
- Assists with preparation and execution of community events produced by the City.
- Assists in creation of marketing materials for the City.
