POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Planner plays a key role in ensuring equipment reliability and production continuity by coordinating, scheduling, and supporting preventive and routine maintenance activities and small projects. This position blends technical know-how with coordination skills, acting as a liaison between maintenance technicians, production personnel, and the production scheduler.

 

The Maintenance Planner will ensure maintenance tasks are prioritized, properly scheduled, and completed efficiently while supporting hands-on tasks as needed. This role requires strong maintenance background, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across departments in a fast-paced, regulated manufacturing environment.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the preventive maintenance calendar and ensure all PM tasks are scheduled in alignment with production schedules and equipment availability.
  • Coordinate with production leaders and the production scheduler to identify ideal maintenance windows and minimize operational disruptions.
  • Generate, assign, and track work orders in the CMMS (e.g. Limble), ensuring accurate documentation and timely closure.
  • Communicate daily maintenance priorities and job scopes to the maintenance team.
  • Assist with hands-on preventive maintenance work including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs.
  • Support emergency maintenance coordination by communicating equipment status and assisting in mobilizing appropriate personnel.
  • Monitor and help manage the maintenance backlog, highlighting overdue PMs or repetitive breakdowns for further review.
  • Ensure PM checklists, procedures, and documentation are kept current and reflect actual work practices.
  • Participate in daily/weekly maintenance planning meetings and contribute to downtime analysis or root cause reviews.
  • Help ensure that safety procedures (e.g., LOTO, confined space) are followed during maintenance work.
  • Recommend improvements to scheduling practices, task efficiency, or equipment uptime.
  • Performs other duties assigned by manager.

 WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in chemical or process-based operations.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs and scheduling best practices.
  • Proficiency with CMMS tools for creating, assigning, and closing work orders.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including production, maintenance, and scheduling.

 

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort performing hands-on PM tasks.
  • Solid understanding of industrial safety practices, including LOTO and hazard communication.
  • Familiarity with pumps, mixers, motors, piping systems, and chemical process equipment Preferred.
  • Prior experience in a hybrid technician/coordinator or planner role a plus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Technical certificate or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical, or electrical fields, preferred. 
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA, GMP), beneficial.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, ensuring high-quality results in every task.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively. 
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with others. 
  • Must be able to follow communication procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

 

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk plant floor, climb ladders, and perform hands-on mechanical tasks.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (respirator, gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Ability to stand, bend, sit, for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Work environment includes exposure to chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.
