Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, 10 months per year following the school schedule

The school health clinical assistant is responsible for performance of clinical and administrative duties on the school health team to support whole child health and wellness initiatives. The clinical assistant provides ancillary support to nurses in the schools to support the successful operation of the school nurse office. The assistant works under the direct oversight of the school nurse for any clinical/medical tasks that are assigned and delegated. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Operates in a supportive role by providing patient/client care activities as delegated by the RN 
  • Performs tasks such as collection of vital signs, medication administration, and completion of specialized healthcare procedures as delegated and directed by the school nurse following standards and processes established by the North Carolina Board of Nursing 
  • Provides basic first aid and response to minor illnesses
  • Reviews medical records for completeness and accuracy for compliance with NC DHHS, school district, and Cabarrus Health Alliance's policies and procedures 
  • Completes administrative tasks as assigned by the school nurse or school nurse supervisor 
  • Functions independently as the care manager in a heath room once all training is completed 
  • Assists the school nurse by providing necessary reports, statistical data, record audits, and quality assessments as requested 

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Office Assistant. Current CPR certification.  At-least 3 years of working as a Certified Nursing Assistant or a Medical Office Assistant. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs 
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health
  • Knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare 
  • Knowledge of available resources and organizations 
  • Ability to secure the cooperation of students, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships 
  • Must be able to accurately record services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions
