The Carbondale Community High School Rebound Program is accepting applications for a part-time GED/HSE (General Educational Development/High School Equivelency) Instructor (Learning Facilitator) for the 2025-26 school year. Teach and mentor adult learners in reading/writing, math, science, social studies, and the U.S./IL Constitutions using CCRS-aligned lessons and i-Pathways. A Bachelor’s degree is required and an Illinois teaching license; experience with adolescent under-achievers and adult basic education is preferred.

Status: Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Compensation: $21.00/hour (electronic deposit)
Reports To: Director of Adult Education

Minimum Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: Illinois teaching certification
Desired: Experience teaching adolescent under-achievers, training in reading instruction, and adult basic education.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide direct instruction, tutoring, and mentoring in:
- Basic reading, writing, and literature
- Mathematics
- Science and social studies
- U.S. and Illinois Constitutions
- Basic life skills and workforce readiness
Use technology, including i-Pathways, for group instruction and individual test preparation.
Incorporate work readiness and social interaction skills into daily instruction.
Deliver evidence-based reading instruction to individuals or groups as assigned.
Evaluate student work, monitor progress, and adjust instruction as needed.
Assist students with practice tests and registration for HSE exams.
Administer TABE post-tests at 60-hour intervals.
Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and student progress records, including documentation of accommodations for students with special learning needs.
Refer students to counseling or guidance services when academic or personal barriers arise.

Student Support & Retention

Work with an assigned student team weekly to monitor attendance and progress.
Contact absent students daily to determine reasons for absence; document findings.
Participate in student retention and follow-up efforts.
Assist with community service and student engagement activities.

Program & Administrative Duties

Conduct orientation/registration at on- or off-campus sites and complete required paperwork promptly.
Track textbooks and instructional materials issued/returned.
Supervise student breaks as assigned.
Assist in preparing grants, evaluations, and project reports.
Collaborate with staff to support student progress, attendance, and retention.
Complete quarterly progress reports and other reports in a timely manner.

Professional Expectations

Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development as required.
Maintain a professional development file and complete a minimum of 12 hours annually aligned to personal and program goals.
Perform other duties as assigned to support student success and program objectives.

Terms of Employment & Benefits

Funding: This is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon adequate grant funding and timely receipt of those funds.
Compensation: $21.00 per hour, paid through electronic deposit.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM.
Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt position.

Paid Holidays
Employees are entitled to the following paid holidays: New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, President’s Day, Casimir Pulaski’s Birthday, the Friday before Easter, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, the 2028 Election Day, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Day, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Leave

Sick Leave: 12 days per year, cumulative up to 220 days.
Personal Leave: 1 day per year.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Building Principal and the Director of Rebound.

Termination
Termination of employment shall be made in accordance with the provisions contained in the Illinois School Code.
