Job Description

DUTIES: Assists in preparation, packaging and serving of meals and maintains high standards with emphasis on appetizing and appealing meals high in nutritive value; maintains high standards of efficiency, sanitation and safety. Instructs and supervises student helpers where applicable; works harmoniously with students, school personnel and public. Acts as cashier, completes and submits required reports. Assists in requisitioning, receiving, and storage of foods and supplies. Assists with inventory and maintenance of accurate records. Performs moderately heavy manual tasks. Attends relevant training classes and workshops. Works cooperatively with others and performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or equivalent; valid California Driver’s License; Tuberculin Clearance; Safety and Sanitation course recommended. One year of food service experience desirable. Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures related to food preparation and serving. Knowledge of care and use of standard food service equipment, principles and methods of quantity food preparation, serving and storage. Ability to do cashier work and to complete required records. Knowledge of basic nutrition and its application in school meal programs. Ability to follow or and written directions. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:   Ability to perform moderately heavy manual tasks; ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to heavy weights on a regular basis; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, twist and reach overhead on a regular basis; sufficient hand and finger dexterity including ability to grasp; auditory ability to hear sounds (timers) and alarms; and ability to work in extreme temperature conditions.
