As a Peer Recovery Specialist I at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, you will play a pivotal role in providing peer support and serving as a consumer advocate for individuals navigating their recovery journeys. You will carry out essential support functions aimed at addressing basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs. Your responsibilities will include monitoring, advocacy, and daily living support, integral to the 23-hour program. In this position, you will develop skills to utilize tools like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Advance Directive, empowering individuals to create personalized wellness and recovery plans.
Working alongside treatment team members, you'll employ problem-solving techniques in both individual and group settings. By sharing your own experiences with mental health services, you will offer valuable insights into the skills, strengths, and resources that contribute to effective coping strategies for daily living. Your role as a Peer Recovery Specialist I is essential in fostering a supportive environment for recovery.

To excel as a Peer Recovery Specialist I at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, candidates must possess a unique blend of personal experience and interpersonal skills. Having undergone a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery from a mental health and/or substance use condition is essential, as it fosters empathy and relatability with those you will support. Proficiency in tools and software required for effective documentation and communication is critical. Candidates must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within the first six months of employment to ensure you are well-versed in best practices.
A valid State Driver's License is also necessary for transportation and outreach purposes. Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of personal wellness and recovery strategies will enable you to advocate effectively for individuals, guiding them in creating personalized plans while fostering a supportive and empowering environment.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Must be a person who has experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery to include making progress in learning about and managing his or her condition and in developing a life outside of or in addition to this condition.
- Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire.
- Valid State Driver's License
