As a member of the Goodwill Southeast Georgia leadership team, Retail District Managers are responsible for achieving budgeted sales, controlling departmental expenses, and attaining net contribution targets to support our mission-related services throughout local communities. This role is committed to safety, training, staff development, and accountability—ensuring consistent workplace operations that drive effective, efficient, and customer-focused retail stores.

📅 Your Typical Day

Revenue & Expense Management
• Partner with the Regional Manager to achieve budgeted sales and net income within your assigned district.
• Manage key expense categories (labor, supplies, transportation, waste management) to maximize efficiency.
• Educate store managers on aftermarket and online revenue opportunities.
• Communicate financial performance and provide guidance to ensure teams meet budget expectations.
• Read, interpret, and communicate budgets, targets, and key performance metrics.

Staffing & Performance Management
• Recruit, interview, and select retail leaders across district stores.
• Step in as acting Store Manager when needed.
• Monitor and adjust staffing levels to maintain labor targets.
• Develop and implement training plans for new and existing associates.
• Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and recognition to drive performance excellence.
• Administer annual reviews and professional development plans.

Communication
• Maintain proactive communication with leadership, team members, and stakeholders.
• Share updates on organizational initiatives, events, and policy changes.
• Respond promptly to service, assistance, and information requests.

Safety, Loss Prevention & Compliance
• Promote a culture of safety across all store operations.
• Conduct root-cause analysis of incidents and implement preventative measures.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, labor standards, and CPSC recall requirements.
• Conduct audits to evaluate operational standards, store appearance, and customer/associate satisfaction.
• Partner with Asset Protection and support departments to address facility, technology, and compliance needs.

Training, Presentations & Reporting
• Provide on-site training to support operational and performance standards.
• Review and report data on sales, production, donations, and KPIs.
• Communicate performance highlights and operational challenges to senior leadership.

Customer Service
• Ensure all stores exceed customer and donor service standards.
• Model exceptional customer service in all interactions.
• Resolve customer issues and provide coaching to staff to strengthen service delivery.

Continuous Quality Improvement & Planning
• Drive continuous improvement by reinforcing SOPs and innovative practices.
• Support annual planning, budgets, and capital expenditure needs.
• Partner with leadership to achieve strategic organizational objectives.

Mission Advancement
• Champion Goodwill’s mission and identify opportunities to integrate mission-related hires into retail operations.
• Represent Goodwill in the community and participate in outreach activities.
• Model Goodwill’s core values daily: Commitment, Learning, Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, and Service to Others.


🧠 What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in business or marketing preferred.
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and communicate across all levels of store personnel.
• Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop associates.
• Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to achieve results.
• Strong judgment and discretion in decision-making.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Availability to respond to texts, emails, and calls after hours.
• Frequent travel between district sites; valid driver’s license, insurable, with a clean driving record.
