RN Quality Specialist - Nursing - Full Time/Day Shift

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Director of Quality and Risk, the Quality RN Specialist will manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital's quality improvement program that includes ancillary, nursing, and medical staff departments to identify trends, prioritize and recommend improvements, decrease duplication, and ensure compliance with hospital accreditation and other programs as needed. The Quality RN Specialist will also work with the quality team to investigate incident reports, patient complaints, patient care issues, and other issues as requested by the supervisor.  

Education:
  • Graduate with a Bachelor's degree in nursing OR relating to healthcare or information technology preferred.  
  •  Graduate with an Associate's degree acceptable with appropriate healthcare experience.  
  •  Licensed nurses preferred with appropriate hospital experience and skills.
Experience:
  • Experience in an acute care hospital preferred
  • Understanding the principles of performance improvement required 
  • Change management or project management experience highly preferred.  
  • Experience with office products including email, word documents, and spreadsheets required.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • Current CA Registered Nurse license


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    Collates, aggregates and prepares reports as directed by the Director of the Quality Management.

    Provides appropriate communications and data to support information needs of the medical and hospital staff for improvement activities.

    Prepares trend analysis of quality management data for the medical staff departments/services using a variety of assessment tools.

    In collaboration with the Medical Staff Coordinator and the Quality Management Director, maintains physician specific profile databases of peer review data designed to integrate quality management activities, risk management activities consideration during the medical staff reappointment process.

    Implements and maintains collection of data from health information analysts, case managers and others as indicators are identified by the medical and hospital staff.

    Under the supervision of the Quality Management Director, screens medical records for appropriateness based on pre-determined criteria.

    Under the supervision of the Quality Management Director, completes brief summaries prior to physician review of selected cases

    Under the supervision of the Quality Management Director, summarizes all departmental performance improvement reports for presentation to the QCC, medical staff, hospital management team and Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis.

    Assists the QMRC in preparing quarterly Quality Dashboard/Scorecard

    Assists clinical and/or other departments with development/revision of forms, and data display via creation of appropriate graphs upon request.

    Provides all requested medical record information and coordinates staff interviews with claims adjusters upon requested.

    Prepares agenda and meeting packets for the medical staff peer review committees, QCC, and Patient Safety.

    Assists the Director in preparing reports and action plans for various regulatory agencies.

    Provides all requested medical record information and coordinates staff interviews with attorneys upon request.

    Maintains logs of patient complaints and disruptive LIPs.

    Serves as a translator for Spanish speaking patients and families.

    Assists the Quality Management Director and other department personnel with office clerical work or other duties as assigned.

    Prepares letters from dictation for Peer Review Activities and maintains log.

    Case preparation/review for the Peer Review Process
