The Childcare Provider/Teacher works under the supervision of the Senior Director of Family Advocacy to ensure our mission is implemented with the highest degree of quality and compassion. As a member of the Children’s Program team, you will be responsible for effective and efficient delivery of trauma-informed care and services to all children. This position is responsible for the safety and security of children and the facility, as well as the supervision of all children, ensuring that each child receives quality care in a nurturing environment. Childcare Provider/Teacher has the goal of providing opportunities for growth and change that can positively impact the developmental trajectory of children.
Childcare Provider/Teachers are responsible to provide a safe and structured environment for all children at Saint John’s Program for Real Change. The right person for this role will possess a love for children, high energy to work with the activity and needs of children, and creativity to keep children engaged and learning.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Ability to manage large and small groups of children.
- Promote social emotional development in children.
- Practice universal precautions when handling babies and children.
- Prevent and manage emergencies according to Saint John’s emergency protocol.
- Maintain the classroom and entire facility both inside and outside, to ensure that it is always clean and orderly.
- Create an environment that welcomes children and encourages learning through play.
- Preschool: Promote school readiness through early education and care.
- School-Age: Provide after-school sessions and promote school attendance. Participate in summer programming on and offsite with partners and at fieldtrips.
- All other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working effectively with children
- Willingness to continue professional growth
Preferred:
- Experience working in a childcare, afterschool, youth program, or education/school setting
- Experience with homeless families or similar demographic
- Successful completion of Early Childhood Education (ECE) or similar courses
- Education at the college level with course work in social work, psychology, family studies, child development, other human services or related field
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work well in team environment
- Good interpersonal skills
- Punctual and good attendance
- Effective communication skills including both oral and written form
- Attention to detail
- Maintain confidentiality
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: First Aid and CPR Certification training will be provided upon hire. This employee will be Mandated Reporter and will need to complete the appropriate training.
