Hiring Range: $4,966 - $6,055
Pay Range: $4,966 - $7,143
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Module Detention Specialist is responsible for monitoring and allowing movement of employees/visitors/inmates in inmate housing units in the detention facility. The Detention Specialist also performs a variety of clerical and data entry tasks maintaining the safety and security of the facility, collection of criminal and/or civil justice records at the Jail for the Sheriff's Office.
Staffing: Must be available to be assigned to any shift to cover a 7-day week, 24 hours, 365 days of the year work schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays). Shifts are 12 hours per day with (1) 10-hour shift per week but must be flexible in response to Jail Staffing needs.
New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month.

Position Duties
- Monitor inmate and deputy movement in housing areas
- Work closely with deputy staff to manage work areas
- Proficient use of Jail’s record management system
- Required to document inmate interactions and incidents in worksheets and incident reports
- Restocking housing unit supplies
- Manage housing area control panels and workstations
- Required to use standard office equipment, i.e., computers, telephones, printers, etc.
- Checking in and escorting visitors throughout the facility
- Facilitating the release of information or inmate property to family and legal counsel
- Must acquire and Maintain Colorado Notary in first 3 months of employment
- Be able to clearly communicate via telephone and radio
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Must be proficient in clerical/computer entry. Experience or any equivalent combination of education or experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, and skill in operating office equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Must possess strong communication skills. Ability to perform varied clerical tasks sometimes under pressure of time and heavy workload. Must have a working knowledge of correct English grammar and spelling. Must be able to deal with information of a confidential and/or unpleasant nature. Must be able to learn quickly and retain knowledge of varied and sometimes complex procedures. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and shift work. May be required to work special hours on short notice. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must successfully pass a complete and thorough application and background investigation. Polygraph examination, psychological evaluation and drug screen is required.

Other Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
1. Vision - Dual vision is not required. Single eye correctable vision is acceptable. Constantly uses vision to read teletype printouts and computer screens.
2. Hearing- Dual hearing is required. Good hearing is required in performing a majority of the tasks. Constantly uses hearing to detect sounds of criminal and non-criminal behavior. Constantly uses hearing to distinguish source and content of a wide variety of sounds. Constantly uses hearing to monitor and use a police radio, radio telephone and the standard telephone to communicate with the dispatch center, other officers, and the public. Occasionally must hear people verbally calling/yelling for help from a distance of one hundred feet.
3. Sense of Smell - Intact. Occasionally uses the olfactory sense to detect illegal use of drugs or chemicals. Occasionally uses the olfactory sense to evaluate the presence of toxic vapors, smoke, and fuels.
4. Speech - Must be able to fluently speak and understand the English language. Frequently must converse with others in person, by telephone, and via two-way radio requiring clear diction and audible volume.
5. Body Movement-
a. Arms and Hands - Must have the use of arms and hands with the ability to have extension above the head. Frequently reaches for overhead files. Frequently types on a keyboard and writes using writing tools such as pens, pencils, and markers.
b. Use of Legs and Lower Body - Must have the ability to move around the work area unassisted and climb stairs.
c. Flexibility - Frequently must have the ability and range of flexibility to reach overhead, reach below knees, kneel, stand for long periods and work sitting for long periods.
d. Will be required to lift and move boxes and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
