What is needed for this job as our Lead Aquatics Specialist:

  • Bachelor's degree or a degree in a related field is preferred: Youth Development, Teaching, Psychology, Sports Management, Physical Education 
  • 1+ years of swim lesson experience 
  • 1+ years of experience in staff supervision 
  • Knowledge of current YMCA or Red Cross preschool, youth and adult curriculum, trends and teaching design preferred
  • Certification in CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants and First Aid (Posses or obtains in 1 month)
  • Lifeguard certification (Posses or obtains in 1 month)
  • Obtains YMCA/USA coaching certification within 3 months

 

 

The responsibilities we will trust you with as our Lead Aquatics Specialist:

  • Direct service hours will be maintained at 90% direct service and 10% administrative. Direct service hours include, but are not limited to swim instruction, lifeguarding, and coaching
  • Implements and instructs the core curriculum for levels 4 - 6 YMCA swim program
  • Serves all families and program participants. Works collaboratively with the Director of Aquatics in our group and private swim lessons
  • Implements high organization and action to surpass budgetary private swim lesson goals. Includes identifying available pool space, placing qualified staff, and highly communicating with participants/families
  • Assists in hiring, training, onboarding, scheduling, motivating and supervising the aquatic staff team
  • Trains and guides day camp staff on responsibilities when campers are at the pool. Communicates day camp swimmers levels to camp staff, membership and risk management teams 
  • Respond effectively and in accordance with YMCA guidelines to problems that occur. Anticipate and minimize potential problems with participants or the aquatic environment. Execute and enforce all safety regulations, policies and procedures
  • Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents. Accurately prepare and submit Accident and Incident Reports in a timely manner
  • Support Special Events and other interdepartmental needs as necessary
  • Attend all organizational and departmental meetings as required
  • Serves on the Aquatics and Risk Management 4KeyC team
