Job Identification

Performs routine maintenance and basic mechanical inspections to ensure equipment remains in safe, efficient working condition. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, checking fluid levels, greasing fittings, replacing worn parts, and reporting major issues to maintenance personnel to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Operates straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas to feed conveyors, hoppers, and chutes. 


Essential Job Functions

• Perform Pre-Trip inspection of all equipment, including yard tankers and water truck, in accordance with Ernst regulations.

• Maneuver all equipment in a safe manner.

• Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair general electrical components

• Ability to use mechanical skills/knowledge such as welding, piping, hand tools, drills, torching, fabrication, cutting, and plumbing.

• Willing and able to work overtime.

• Perform or assist replacement of conveyor rollers, bearings, and related components.

• Check fluid levels in gear reducers (feed agg belts, batch belt, screw conveyors).

• Check and perform maintenance on belt wipers.  

• Inspect skirts and board rubbers and perform maintenance as needed.  

• Inspect airline hoses and perform maintenance as needed.  

• Inspect loadout dust collectors and bag house on top of silos and perform maintenance as needed.

• Making multiple trips to access the office and plant areas.

• Operate all equipment economically. Ie. Shut off when not in use. 

• Grease bucket pins and lift arms daily.

• Visually inspect all belts and rollers while plant is in operation.

• Feed the plant as directed.

• Drain moisture traps and fill oilers.

• Maintain required oil levels and air filters in the air compressor.                                                                       

• Communicate often with manager throughout the day.

• Refuel all equipment used every evening and as necessary throughout the day.

• Grease all tail and head pulleys along with tightening set screws.

• Keep trash picked up around the plant shop and parking lots.

• Make sure tool shed and watershed are swept clean and are organized.

• Maintain a good rapport with staff.

• Visually inspect aggregate shape and size and report problems to your manager. 

• Visually inspect plants for cracks in steel.

• Listen for problems while plant is in operation. (Air leaks, bearing & roller noises etc.)


Job Requirements

• Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from supervisors and management.

• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

• Must be able to do simple math, such as addition and subtraction.

• Must have valid driver’s license.

• Must be able to deal with management and co-workers in a diplomatic manner in varied stressful situations.

• Must be able to operate vehicle(s) and perform tasks in a safe manner and observe all safety requirements and company policies.


Physical Demands

• This is moderately strenuous work. Maintenance must climb in and out of equipment approximately 50 times per day at various heights from the ground. A bar or handle is provided to help the driver pull himself into the cab.

• Most equipment is equipped with levers and pedals which are used to control the many parts of the equipment while driving and during the process of loading materials into the load bins. The operator must be able to manipulate the levers and pedals in a coordinated manner.

• Maintenance must wash and clean all equipment to Ernst standards using proper cleaning materials.

• Maintenance must climb ladders and catwalks up to eighty feet high.

• Ability to lift 50 pounds, push a wheelbarrow up to 250 pounds, climb safety ladders upward of over 50 feet vertically, and climb stairs.


Environmental Conditions

• This role is outdoors most of the time. Weather conditions such as temperature, moisture and other conditions have a significant impact on the job. 

• This role is at an aggregate plant, which may result in occasional exposure to construction-related materials. This environment can include, but is not limited to, dust, elevated noise levels, and other typical industrial conditions
