About the Department
This is a technical managerial position responsible for the operations of the Office of Maps and Surveys which provides such services as surveying, deed recording and reproduction of maps and plans. The incumbent works under the general direction of the City Engineer and directly supervises technical and clerical staff. Related work is performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. Position Duties
- Supervises survey crews in pre-construction surveys including scheduling and monitoring field activities, checking survey notes for completeness and accuracy, and developing standard work procedures;
- Supervises technical and clerical staff in the collection and maintenance of maps, survey information, various files, records and deeds for use by survey crews, other government agencies and the public;
- Supervises survey crews in performance of precision geodetic surveys to establish and maintain survey control monuments in City;
- Maintains and revises the Official City Map;
- Organizes survey information and resulting calculations, to prepare plans, specifications and reports;
- Advises City departments, attorneys, real estate operators, abstract companies and general public on surveying law and practices and historical information regarding street locations and zoning issues;
- Prepares deed descriptions for rezoning and land sales;
- Reviews subdivision requests and maps for conformity with zoning and engineering regulations and assigns street numbers;
- Trains employees in procedures, new work methods, and safe practices;
- Notifies Assessor of all ownership changes;
- Prepares divisional budget submissions, monitors budget expenses and the handling of cash receipts;
- Supervises the reproduction of documents, maps and construction plans for City departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor's License PLUS
- Two (2) years of experience directly supervising others including performance evaluation, planning, scheduling, assigning and monitoring their work, disciplining and coaching; AND
- One (1) year of experience in writing reports.
NOTE: Both 1) and 2) above may have been gained concurrently with the experience requirements for obtaining the N.Y.S. Land Surveyor's License. Jetzt bewerben
