About the Department
Position Duties
- Serves as subject matter expert, individually motivated and operating with a sense of urgency and personal accountability
- Leads research, preparation, update and ensures adherence to the department emergency preparedness documents and resource lists and other pertinent documents related to employee and constituent relief
- Leads the development and implementation of strategies, initiatives, tools, plans, process and procedures for emergency and/or disaster activities; assist with logistical planning
- Develop and facilitate Crisis Support training and learning events for department, volunteers and outside agencies
- Develops and updates working resource documents to local resources for water, food, shelter, behavioral health and clothing
- Develops budget recommendations for Emergency & Disaster Relief required resources and on-hand inventory
- Implement data standards related to Emergency & Disaster Relief, review and present data analysis to include household demographics, needs of the local community, costs related to response and other related items.
- Acts as an Office Safety Coordinator; may participate in operations for the evacuation, assist with the coordination of opening public shelters, and provide recommendation for implementation of functional needs related to Human Services
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Human Services, Business Administration or closely related field, and two (2) years’ experience in Human Services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local emergency management operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions; knowledge of situational analysis and planning; and knowledge of curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and/or groups.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas in such a manner so others will understand during a crisis situation; ability to respond to a wide range of issues under stress; ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems, ability to adjust actions in relation to the situation or other’s actions; ability to read laws, codes, and standards applicable to fire code enforcement; ability to represent the County in a professional and effective manner; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Elected/Appointed Officials, Department/Division Heads, County employees, government agencies and the public
- Skill in conducting investigations; skill in compiling and analyzing data; skill in formulating recommendations and writing reports; skill in utilizing Windows-based word processing and spreadsheet software; skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, co-workers, Elected/Appointed Officials, Department/Division Heads, County employees, other government agencies, outside organizations and the general public
- Demonstrates technological intuitiveness
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Required to be on-call 24-hours a day in the event of emergencies
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are in an office / telework environment
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds
- Occasionally move about the office/ telework office
- Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
