Position Overview:

The Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OB/GYN) is a board-certified or board-eligible physician responsible for the comprehensive medical and surgical care of women, with a focus on reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, and disorders of the female reproductive system. This role includes outpatient, inpatient, surgical and delivery services and emphasizes evidence-based, patient-centered care across the lifespan.  The OB/GYN serves as a key provider in the community developing relationships with patients and collaborating closely with family medicine, emergency medicine and surgical colleagues to ensure high-quality outcomes and continuity of care.  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides prenatal, perinatal, and postnatal care, including managing routine pregnancies and collaborating with tertiary care physicians on high-risk pregnancies as needed; 
  • Diagnose and treat gynecological conditions, including abnormal bleeding or menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, infertility, infections, and menopause related concerns; 
  • Conduct preventative screenings such as Pap smears, pelvic examinations, and breast exams; 
  • Perform in-office and surgical procedures such as hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, cesarean sections, IUD placement, colposcopy, LEEP, and D&C; robot- assisted procedures; 
  • Provide contraceptive counseling and family planning services; 
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR); 
  • Participate in on-call coverage for labor and delivery and emergency gynecological care; 
  • Collaborate with nurses, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care;  
  • Serve as a clinical leader in promoting maternal and newborn health. Participate in community outreach and health education efforts from time-to-time and as appropriate to address rural population health needs, and support quality improvement initiatives; 
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital, state and federal guidelines. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • The physician will maintain a collaborative and supervisory relationship with Advanced Practice Providers (APP) per Winona Health Medical Staff Bylaws. 

Skills and Experience:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school 
  • Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program 
  • Board certified or board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology 
  • Current license (or eligibility) to practice medicine in the state of Minnesota 
  • Active DEA registration and current certifications in ACLS and NRP 
  • Excellent clinical, diagnostic, and surgical skills. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. 
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and ethical medical practice. 

 

Required Competencies:

This position is a direct care provider and requires the ability to give adequate care to patients/residents in the following age groups:

Newborn (Birth-1)

Child (2-12)

Adolescent (13-17)

Adult (18-65)

Geriatric (65 and over)

 

Physical Demands:

Medium Work:

Work activities that require lifting frequently with 25 lbs., occasionally 25-40 lbs., and rarely 50 lbs. Work activities that require push/pull forces of with 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. rarely. Medium work activities generally exceed those for light work. Work activities may assume work in a variety of work positions including frequent bending and stooping, frequently squatting, frequent standing, and walking. Medium work includes most roles within Winona Health that requires patient handling activities of transfers, rolling, and positioning.

Physical Requirements:

  1. May lift objects up to 50 lbs. rarely, 30 - 45 lbs occasionally, and frequently 10 - 30 lbs.
  2. May push/pull carts or equipment up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and rarely up to 100 lbs.
  3. May push/pull wheelchairs with 30 - 50 lbs. of force with a handle height of 36”.
  4. May require moderate to firm gripping or pinching. May use hand tools
  5. May reach frequently 7 - 36”, occasionally 6 – 80”.

Transport patients/residents in beds, carts, and wheelchairs. Vertical handle height at 36”. Firm grasping is required. Push/pull force for beds of 35 – 45 lbs., for wheelchairs

Work Environment:

Primarily outpatient clinic setting, complimented by clinic or hospital-based responsibilities during assigned call shifts.  Hospital-based work while on call may include, but is not limited to, response to the Labor and Delivery/Inpatient Unit, Operating Room, and/or the Emergency Department.
