A Lead Physician Advisor (LPA) provides clinical leadership and expertise within a healthcare organization, focusing on optimizing patient care, resource utilization, and regulatory compliance. They bridge the gap between clinical practice and administrative functions, ensuring efficient and high-quality care delivery. The LPA role often involves mentoring other Physician Advisors, collaborating with various departments, and driving initiatives to improve patient outcomes and financial performance. 

Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine).
  • Active medical license in the relevant state(s).
  • Strong clinical experience and expertise in utilization management and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Experience with utilization review criteria (e.g., MCG, InterQual).
  • Ability to build strong relationships with physicians, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations, coding, and billing practices.
  • Experience with quality improvement methodologies.
