The American Angus Association is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Systems Engineer to join its Information Systems team in St. Joseph, MO—a short drive from the Greater Kansas City Area. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to support and maintain the technical infrastructure that powers the Association and its subsidiaries. The Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining, configuring, and ensuring the reliable operation of computer systems, networks, and related infrastructure across the organization. This role requires technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. The position reports to the IS Team Lead and receives guidance from the Sr. Systems Engineer.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and update operating systems and application software on servers, desktops, and laptops.
  • Perform regular system backups and recovery operations to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.
  • Monitor system performance using diagnostic tools, identify issues, and apply timely fixes or upgrades.
  • Implement and enforce organizational policies regarding security, access, and usage.
  • Assist in maintaining and troubleshooting connectivity issues with local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and wireless networks.
  • Configure and manage network devices including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Deploy and manage antivirus and endpoint security solutions.
  • Implement access controls, user authentication, and authorization protocols.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, document breaches, and develop remediation plans.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to employees and stakeholders.
  • Respond to helpdesk tickets, diagnose hardware/software problems, and offer effective solutions.
  • Develop user guides, FAQs, and lead training sessions to enhance system literacy throughout the organization.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in accessible language to non-technical users.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, and new platform deployments.
  • Collaborate with IT managers and project teams to assess needs, develop strategies, and ensure seamless implementation.
  • Document system configurations, network diagrams, and change management activities.
  • Research emerging technologies and recommend adoption based on organizational goals.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, networks, policies, and procedures.
  • Generate reports on system health, security incidents, and project status for IT management.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning by documenting critical processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency with Windows and macOS operating systems; experience with Linux and virtualization platforms is advantageous.
  • Strong knowledge of Active Directory, TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy/InTune, PowerShell/Scripting, and Microsoft 365 Administration.
  • Security-minded with a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles.
  • Excellent attention to detail, troubleshooting, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong initiative with ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Server+, MCSA, or CCNA are a plus.
