About the Department

Directs and coordinates the daily activities of the Operations Division at the Northern Treatment Plant (NTP). Provides management and leadership in developing and maintaining programs related to the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. Works under the general direction of the NTP Director of Operations & Maintenance and supervises the Operations field supervisors at NTP. Serves as Operator In Responsible Charge (ORC) for the NTP.

Position Duties

  1. Sets facility-wide operational direction and performance metrics used to guide facility operation.
  2. Provides oversight and guidance for all treatment-related decisions and activities that ultimately impact water quality. Ensures compliance with safety, contractual and regulatory requirements which govern the operation of the treatment facility.
  3. Provides clear and compelling direction for the NTP Operations Division. Directs and advises the NTP Operations Supervisors on work schedules, staff training, personnel policies, and employee relations. Prioritizes the needs, activities, and expectations of the NTP Operations Division.  
  4. Coordinates with other Metro departments in prioritizing and conducting construction projects and daily activities which impact NTP Operations in accordance with safety, contractual and regulatory requirements
  5. Identifies constraints and opportunities to increase efficiency within NTP Operations Division programs. Makes recommendations and directs the implementation of changes.
  6. Supports and helps to administer the NTP budget, providing performance reports and comments on variances. Recommend process optimization goals and staffing changes as it impacts the budget.
  7. Participates in the employee selection process; evaluates performance and skill levels of employees; and provides counseling, and discipline as necessary.
  8. Maintains and administers the safety and employee development training programs for NTP’s Operations Division.
  9. Performs other administrative or technical duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree in water quality management, engineering, science, or other related field.
Licensing, Certification, and other Requirements
State of Colorado Class “A” Certification in wastewater treatment plant operations or the ability to obtain the certification through reciprocity
