Position Summary:
The Critical Care Transport EMT (Operator) functions as part of the Boston MedFlight Ground Critical Care Transport Team. Under the direction of the Operations Managers, the EMT is responsible for providing safe, effective, and comprehensive patient care during critical care transports. This role also includes the safe operation of Boston MedFlight ground ambulances and ensuring all operational, safety, and clinical standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide safe, effective, and compassionate care to all patients transported by Boston MedFlight in accordance with established protocols and standards.
- Operate Ground Critical Care Transport vehicles in a safe and professional manner at all times.
- Attend and participate in mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education sessions.
- Maintain all required certifications and licensure in accordance with Massachusetts DPH and Boston MedFlight standards.
- Complete accurate and timely electronic and written documentation in compliance with organizational policies.
- Demonstrate effective and professional communication with teammates, healthcare partners, and the public.
- Adhere to all Boston MedFlight policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
- Comply with and promote all safety practices and protocols.
- Maintain clinical proficiency through ongoing education and skills development.
- Maintain a clean and organized environment within the transport vehicle and base of operations.
- Assist with retrieving, cleaning, stocking, and returning medical equipment as needed.
- Report to assigned duty stations, including remote locations as scheduled.
- Perform daily vehicle inspections and report operational or safety concerns to the Program Manager and Maintenance Department.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and clerical support as required.
- Participate in community outreach, education, and marketing initiatives.
- Ability to travel as required to fulfill organizational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current National Registry and Massachusetts EMT-B certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years of EMT experience.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license in good standing.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension).
- Must provide a current RMV driving record prior to employment and annually thereafter.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical; annual physical examinations and Fit-for-Duty test.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment drug screening and random drug and alcohol testing as required.
- Capable of lifting and carrying medical equipment and patients; must be able to lift 175 pounds with assistance.
- Must be free of physical aliment which may impair consciousness or cognitive ability.
- Able to work in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, snow).

- Must pass FBI and/or CORI background check prior to starting employment.
- Valid U.S. passport, Real ID-compliant driver’s license, and authorization to work in the U.S.
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position, eligible for overtime pay.
- This position requires current COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations, subject to medical or religious exemption requests.
