About the Department
Position Duties
- Performs carpentry, minor welding and other semiskilled work activities in repairing, constructing and maintaining buildings and equipment at Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Prepares surfaces and applies paint, varnish and other protective materials; utilizes power sandblaster to remove graffiti or prepare surfaces.
- Operates hand tools to dig trenches for utility lines, etc.
- Builds forms for pouring concrete; operates cement mixer to prepare concrete; finishes concrete surfaces.
- Provides working supervision to Parks Maintenance Workers and part-time employees as assigned.
- Works with various skilled craftsmen in assembling and installing pipe and wiring for utility service and irrigation systems.
- Installs and maintains playground equipment.
- Repairs and installs equipment at special events, to include tents and stages, and seasonal use facilities and structures, such as swimming pools and ball fields.
- Completes daily record of work completed.
- Operates equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License in the performance of essential job functions.
Minimum Qualifications
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position and must possess a valid Arkansas Class B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

- Familiarity with the building trades.
- Skill in the use of hand and light power tools.
- Skill in the operation of tractors or light earth moving equipment.
- Skill in the operation of an automatic transmission vehicle.
- Skill in the operation of light and medium trucks.
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to lift, push, pull or carry up to one hundred (100) pounds or more in the performance of essential job functions.
- Ability to understand simple written and oral instructions.
- Ability to keep simple records.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally.
