About the Department
Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking applicants for a pharmacology faculty position. Our mission is to educate a diverse osteopathic physician workforce committed to improving the quality and access to healthcare in underserved communities. The successful faculty applicant will support this mission by instructing medical students, by engaging in meaningful service, and by exploring their primary field of interest, thereby advancing knowledge and inspiring excellence in scholarship and medical practice in our trainees.
Position Duties
Position Description: This is a full-time, 12-month Pharmacology faculty position in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The successful candidate will participate in the curricular development and instruction ofmedical students through systems-based courses of the 1st and 2nd (OMSI and OMSII) academic years.
Location: Burrell has two locations, Melbourne Florida and Las Cruces New Mexico. The current opening is located in Las Cruces, New Mexico but will involve collaboration with faculty at both locations to instruct students on both campuses.
Curriculum: Burrell implements a spiral, systems-based curriculum that integrates the basic sciences with clinical medicine and employs interactive methodologies and an andragogical teaching philosophy. Successful candidates will function as a member of a collaborative, multidisciplinary teaching team to develop and deliver their instructional content within an integrated curriculum
Institutional Service: Service will also be an essential function of the position, including committee membership, faculty development, student advising, prospective student interviews, service to the faculty member’s field and community outreach.
Research and Scholarship: Burrell faculty are encouraged to engage in scholarship and/or research in the field of their choice, including educational research. A well-equipped laboratory space is shared by those who choose to engage in laboratory research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruction of first and second-year osteopathic medical students
- Development board-style (COMLEX/USMLE) exam questions.
- Classroom instruction
- Preparation of asynchronous learning materials and/or lecture recordings
- Participation in scholarly activities
- Providing service to the institution, community, and profession.
Minimum Qualifications
- Terminal degree (PhD or PharmD)
- Experience in teaching
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of Learning Management Systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with online instruction and active learning approaches.
- Knowledge of educational theory
- Experience with medical education
- Experience with writing board-style (COMLEX/USMLE) exam questions
- Evidence of scholarly activity and grantsmanship with a strong record of publication and productivity, are preferred and valued credentials in prospective candidates.
Other Qualifications
- Typically, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8am-5pm; may vary depending on contract.
- Occasionally require evening and weekends for special events.
