Under the direction of the Moakley Center’s Associate Director specific responsibilities include:
Coordinating Intake Process:
- Working with up to 15 youth during the Fall and Spring semesters and upwards of 40 youth during the Summer
- Scheduling intakes for youth referred by DCF
- Assist youth in obtaining required HR Identification such as Mass ID’s, birth certificates, work permits, updated resumes
- Prepare and lead all youth trainings to make sure youth are prepared for internship placements
Providing Mentorship/Job Coaching:
- Offer advice to youth on budgeting, transportation to/from work, appropriate work communication, dress, and behavior (though not disciplinary) as needed
- Making sure the youth are following expectations and giving them constructive criticism as needed to help the youth succeed in the work place
- Have an awareness of confidentiality issues with youth
- Act as a role model and support/assist youth if problems arise in the workplace
- Be responsible for and respond to cell phone calls from youth on work days (cell phones can be provided)
- Notify the Associate Director if problems arise
Communicating with MCPM Staff and Placement Sites:
- Communicate with each placement site/youth pair once a week during the program.
- Complete and submit evaluation reports each Friday to MCPM/DCF/CFP team highlighting summary of youth progress and noting any issues for concern. Evaluation will include such information as:
- Evaluation of the placement site:
- Are they giving the youth enough work?
- Enough supervision?
- Enough guidance?
- Are they utilizing the youth in an appropriate way?
- Do they think the youth is moving towards his/her goals?
- Evaluation of the youth:
- Are they performing to a reasonable standard?
- Are they working at their scheduled times?
- Are they completing tasks?
- Are they acting appropriate?
- Are they moving towards their goals?
- Cultivate open dialogue with youth and placement sites
Program Administration
- Assist with training of new iWorks Staff
- Coordinate with Assistant Director with the collection of weekly youth timesheets
- Participate in all programmatic meeting
- Assist in planning and attending both the youth orientation and graduation with Assistant Director
- Meet with youth at Suffolk University once a week to go over budgeting and savings
- Assist the Associate Director with the evaluation of the iWorks program including the monitoring of pre and post program evaluations
- Retrieve youth’s checks weekly from CFP office
- New Program Development
- Design and implement a new program for iWorks youth to be rolled out in the spring of 2023.
Program Assistant Duties:
- Assisting the Associate Director, with various activities related to other contracts funded during the employment period
- Support the Assistant Director various administrative tasks
- Support MCPM with the administering of Certificate Programs and other center projects/events
- Send out and track course grade sheets and faculty evaluations.
- Check main MCPM voicemail and email regularly
- Assist the Assistant Director with Center events including the Legislative Academy.
- Serve as Public relations lead. Duties include taking photos, keep track of all event (including recording counts and creating a database of all attendees.
- Take the lead on designing the Annual Report.
Qualifications:
Suffolk University graduate/graduating student preferred. Preference will be given to those enrolled in the MPA, MPA/MS Mental Health Counseling and MPA/MSCJ programs and candidates with relevant job experience in job coaching/mentoring with youth aged 16-21. Bi-lingual/bi-cultural candidates are encouraged. Applicant must have own transportation or be familiar and comfortable with public transportation. Travel reimbursement is available.
Specific skills include:
- an ability to multi-task; establish priorities and meet deadlines
- have good interpersonal skills
- proficiency in Word and Excel
- knowledge of SPSS preferable
- be able to work independently
- experience in organizing a project and supervising the implementation of the work is preferred
Hours: 35 hours/week
Dates of employment: Sept 1, 2025 to May 25, 2026
Pay: $22/hr
