Job Goal:

To assist in the implementation of the LKSD Instructional Programs, To assist in the development of curricular frameworks so they reflect the bilingual programs, and meet the needs of LEP/ESL students
Qualifications: 1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Valid Alaska Teacher Certificate required.
3. Yup’ik language ability preferred.
4. Curriculum planning and development experience preferred.
5. Four successful years of work experience in bilingual education, cross-cultural education, ESL education, or related field required.
6. Successful teaching experience using bilingual education methods and materials required.
7. Experience in the implement of bilingual education programs and teacher training methods preferred.
8. Ability to work and live in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
9. Experience in testing and measurement preferred.
10. Willingness to travel extensively to remote locations.
11. Ability to carry out successfully the duties described below.
Duties:

Specific Duties for this position:

  • Administer the district’s Home Visiting program.

  • Hire program personnel and manage personnel issues effectively in Bethel.

  • Assist Site Administrators with hiring ECE personnel and managing related personnel issues.

  • Develop and review early childhood curriculum to ensure smooth transitions to kindergarten.

  • Train preschool and Early Childhood staff.

  • Advise, support, and guide ECE personnel in pursuit of higher educational goals.

  • Monitor programs through Site Administrators, site visits, telecommunications, or VTC.

  • Monitor screening and progress of children in the Home Visiting program.

  • Oversee overall administration of district daycare(s).

  • Develop and deliver professional development programs for staff.

  • Assist with developing and managing ECE budgets.

  • Oversee systematic maintenance of student records at the site and district office.

  • Assist with monitoring related grants and preparing required reports or compliance items.

  • Monitor and coordinate the Regional Advisory Board for the Tumkanka program.

  • Collaborate with early childhood agencies, educational institutions, and other service providers.

  • Coordinate Early Childhood (Preschool) curriculum with kindergarten programs to provide smooth transition for children.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
