Elementary Assistant Principal

 

The Elementary Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Elementary Principal with analyzing staff development needs, conducting classroom observations and evaluations, instructional coaching, interpreting performance data, and supporting classroom management. This position maintains positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, peers, and community members and provides the best possible opportunities for student development and growth, both educationally and personally.

Reports to: Elementary Principal

Direct Reports: Elementary School Teachers and Elementary Support Staff.

Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position. Salary range is $96,756 - $140,297 annually, dependent upon education and experience. The school participates in the Colorado Public Schools Retirement System PERA. 

 

Essential Functions:

Collaboration:

  • Participates in and oversees the hiring process for teachers and support staff
  • Directly supervises assigned teachers and support staff
  • Oversees, supports, and ensures quality instruction at assigned grade levels and in assigned departments
  • Monitors staff and student attendance
  • Leads PLCs alongside team leads to support effective instruction and planning.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of curriculum materials at assigned grade levels in order to support successful implementation
  • Provides active supervision and presence in hallways and classrooms to ensure a safe and orderly school environment
  • Conducts informal and formal observations of teachers and support staff
  • Creates, implements, and updates all 504s Plans in assigned grade levels
  • Collaborates with GT Coordinator/Lead to assess all students and provide services to identified students.
  • Contributes to and supports the Summer School program when in session.
  • Develops and/or coordinates target professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Develops the Elementary Master Schedule in discussion with other Assistant Principals and Team Leads.
  • Monitors and supervises students during school drop-off and school pick-up, student lunch hours in the cafeteria, and student playground time.
  • Leads teacher teams in review of data and student performance targets. Helps coordinate beginning-of-year, middle-of-year, and end-of-year testing calendar and logistics with Principal, Assistant Principals, and Assessment Team.
  • Oversees field trips for assigned grade levels.
  • Oversees student discipline and parent communication.
  • Participates in school-wide events as requested.
  • Partners with other Assistant Principals to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS).
  • Represents teachers at Elementary Building Leadership Team meetings.
  • Verifies that student plans (ELD, MTSS, READ) are current and up-to-date. Attends Special Education meetings for students as required.
  • Works in partnership with counselors to support students’ academic performance and emotional and social well-being.
  • Works directly with the Principal and Assistant Principals to coach and support teachers.
  • Supports and facilitates the MTSS process.

 

Education, License, and Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Principal License or be able to obtain one within (6) months of hire.
  • Minimum of five years successful teaching experience required, preferably at the Elementary School level.

Working Conditions:

Exposure/Noise Level: Occasional exposure to airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions.  Normal school environment with moderate to high noise level.

Mental Functions: Analyze, collaboration, communicate, compare, compilation of data, compute, coordinate, copy, direct, evaluate, instruct, interpersonal skills, present, report, synthesize.

Physical Activities: Office environment including computer interface. Bend, reach, sit, stand, stoop, talk, walk, and heavy person-to-person interaction with students, parents, peers, and community members.

Weight and Force Demands: Moderate physical activity (lifting, pulling, and pushing up to 25 pounds).

Other: May be required to work outside of normal working hours and travel for work related functions.
