Chess Club Lead bei School District of Clayton

Wydown Middle School serves a diverse body of approximately 650 students. We believe that participation in extracurricular activities has a positive effect on student success. The Middle School Chess Club Sponsor works with students interested in developing strategic thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills through the game of chess. This role involves mentoring students as they learn, practice, and compete in chess-related activities and tournaments.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Principal

The Successful Candidate will:

• Plan and supervise regular club meetings, practices, and events, supporting both beginner and advanced players.
• Coordinate all aspects of the club such as, but not limited to, practices, competitions, and tournaments.
• Help students learn and apply strategic concepts, sportsmanship, and critical thinking through chess.
• Maintain responsibility for the safe and proper utilization of facilities.
• Promote and maintain strong parental and community involvement.
• Assist in coordinating with tournament hosts, community chess organizations, or regional leagues.
• Establish guidelines for participation and encourage inclusivity for students of all skill levels.
• Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and resources as needed.
• Maintain appropriate and accurate records for club activities.
• Ensure the safety, conduct, and general welfare of students.
• Maintain high standards of student behavior and sportsmanship.
• Inventory and maintain chess sets, clocks, and other equipment.
• Prepare appropriate reports as required by the District.
• Represent the District and the school in appropriate activities or committees.
• Maintain confidentiality and unquestionable integrity.
• Maintain regular attendance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

• Some college is required.
• At least 2 years’ experience is preferred.

Position:  Part-time temporary, season-specific.

Education:  Bachelor's Degree preferred. 

Compensation:  Based upon experience.
