JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Technician /Technologist Trainee. 
 
Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor, this position is responsible to install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment and systems across welding, pipefitting, machining, and millwrighting, while ensuring all work is performed safely and to quality standards. The role includes non-destructive testing, project coordination, technical support, and the preparation of technical documentation for generating station equipment and facilities.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES  
•    Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, and overhaul mechanical equipment and components for generating stations and facilities.
•    Maintain and operate precision machines, test equipment, shop tools, and fabricate components using specialized tooling.
•    Conduct noise, balancing, and vibration measurements, and test mechanical equipment to ASME code standards.
•    Fabricate, assemble, and repair metal components, including advanced welding tasks.
•    Perform non-destructive examinations and testing (NDE/NDT Level 1) on major and auxiliary equipment, and support NDT technique development.
•    Coordinate large projects for new system installations or technology replacements, ensuring quality assurance through contract coordination and inspections.
•    Align machines using precision tools such as dial indicators and laser-alignment equipment.
•    Provide technical support, prepare technical documentation and reports, and ensure health and safety standards are met.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
•    Grade 12 or equivalent, plus a 2-year college diploma in a relevant field of study*.
•    Certificate of Qualification/Red Seal Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) 433A
•    Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks in a time-effective manner
•    Skilled in reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and technical sketches.
•    Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance
•    Able to work alone or as a collaborative team player
•    Good judgment and problem-solving skills
•    Valid G Driver’s License in good standing
•    Experience with hydroelectric generators and related equipment is an asset.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
