Hybrid Work:
This is a hybrid work position in Calgary, Alberta and requires in-person collaboration at the WestJet Campus (22 Aerial Place NE) 3 days per week.  This provides flexibility the remaining 40% of the work week.  This hybrid work plan allows for critically important learning, collaboration and networking with our colleagues.  Specific days in the office are agreed upon by the team.

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager Group Audit, Investigations & Safety Data the Operational Auditor will participate in the performance of station safety audits and operational quality auditing throughout the organization. The individual will coordinate and oversee components of the station audit plan, and be responsible for planning, executing, and reviewing work performed in our audit engagements, to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and processes documented in WestJet and Encore’s internal manuals. In addition to WestJet’s safety management system and applicable external requirements (including those of Transport Canada and IOSA).

 

Job Description:

  • Perform station safety audits throughout the network, Canada, Untied States and International stations
  • Plan, conduct, and report operational quality audits based on Transport Canada, IATA and internal requirements, as well as focused audits, and audits-for-cause
  • Assist in the development and on-going maintenance of the company-wide operational quality audit program; track and report on the determination and implementation of corrective actions, verifying that corrective actions effectively addressed the root-causes of the non-conformances
  • Identify and report operational, system and safety deficiencies as well as provide opportunities for continued improvement to the appropriate Operations Manager and the Leader responsible for the areas of deficiency
  • Manage consistency, quality, and timeliness of audits performed, in compliance with expectations
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with internal and external operational business partners
  • Extensive travel, potentially up to twenty-six (26) weeks per year across WestJet’s network
  • Travel usually takes place Monday-Friday, some weekend travel is required

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant airline operational knowledge and experience
  • Strong understanding of and ability to interpret and apply regulatory/compliance requirements
  • Prior experience/familiarity with WestJet and Encore company operation manuals
  • Prior experience/familiarity with Transport Canada and IOSA expectations is an asset
  • Strong understanding of safety management principles such as operational risk management processes, investigation practices, safety culture, human and organizational factors analysis, continuous improvement, and quality management systems
  • Experience with IAuditor application an asset
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, and ability to communicate at all levels within the organization as well as external stakeholders
  • Strong relationship building skills with experience in coordinating the expectations of a diverse set of stakeholders; Quality control/assurance/auditing education and experience an asset
  • Must have a valid passport and ability to travel outside of Canada at any Westjet destinations.
