We have an exciting opportunity available for a Corrosion Protection Technician to join our Networks team in Kidman Park SA, on a permanent fulltime basis.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Asset Protection, the CP Technician has the primary function of network distribution and pipeline integrity management and to lead the implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the cathodic protection system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Protect the safety and integrity of the network through potential and coating fault surveys, earthing and surge protection tests, cathodic protection unit commissioning tests and telemetry maintenance and installation activities
  • Conduct technical assessments of the cathodic protection systems to ensure it is operated and maintained in accordance with APA Groups' technical and regulatory obligations
  • Provide technical input to the program for implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of the cathodic protection system
  • Supervise the application of pipe coatings and ensure newly applied pipe coatings meet specific industry standards
  • Convey corrosion concepts and processes in a clear and compelling manner at a level to suit the intended audience
  • With a high degree of autonomy, scheduled testing or fault rectification while working on cathodic protection systems and make appropriate decisions to maintain the network

Your background

  • Australian Corrosion Association (ACA) Corrosion Technologist accreditation and or A-Class Electrical trade qualification and or ACA Corrosion Technologist Certificate and or NACE Level 1 Coating Inspector (preferred)
  • Proven experience in analysing data, determining trends and interpreting findings to make critical adjustments or initiate corrective actions to the cathodic protection system.
  • Well-developed computer skills, with extensive experience in word processing, spread sheets, and databases
  • Ability to interpret technical reports, assess field data and recommend adjustments to cathodic protection systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and comfortable operating collaboratively or in an autonomous environment
  • Knowledge and skills to provide specialised services, such as installation and maintenance of electronic monitoring equipment, metering equipment and SCADA controls, depending upon individual qualifications and competencies

Networks manages and operates local distribution networks and transmission pipelines that deliver gas to around 1.4 million households and businesses across Australia.

This is an exciting time for the Networks team, we are growing and expanding with many new projects, including biogas and hydrogen and also the 2032 Olympics.  Also, we have a strong culture of continuous improvement and working towards Net Zero with the introduction of renewable green gas into the Gas Networks.  We need people who are courageous, nimble and ready to make a positive impact.
