About the Internship Program

Our interns are embedded directly into Democracy Docket’s teams, where they gain hands-on, professional experience and contribute to meaningful projects. Interns also receive mentorship, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities to support their career growth.

News & Reporting – Work closely with our reporting team to pitch, research, and draft articles covering voting rights, democracy, and current events. Assist with fact-checking, sourcing, and daily newsroom operations.

Qualifications

We’re looking for students who are:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (all majors welcome)
• Passionate about democracy, civic engagement, media, or public policy
• Strong communicators (written and verbal)
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Program Benefits

• $20/hour compensation
• Flexible work schedule (15–20 hours/week)
• Located in or able to commute to Washington, D.C.
• Direct mentorship and regular 1:1 check-ins with a staff host
• Access to Democracy Docket programming, staff events, and professional development opportunities
• Hands-on experience contributing to a national media platform
