Job Overview: Responsible for supporting, editing, and creating SMSC GIS products including maps, layers, apps, geodatabases, GPS files, and LIDAR information. Serves as technical lead and provides quality control to other GIS team members and departments.

  • 4 to 8 core responsibilities of the role.
  • Assist Natural Resources staff with GIS related projects.
  • Use programming tools to enhance and automate GIS workflow.
  • Accomplish field data collection projects using GPS/GNSS, UAV, Field Maps, or LIDAR devices.
  • Be involved in post-processing, data management, and quality control of field collected data.
  • Produce high quality figures, online mapping applications, and other mapping products.
  • Provide technical guidance and training documents to SMSC’s internal GIS Users.
  • Develop, maintain, and update feature classes and GIS databases in coordination with other GIS users following established protocols.
  • Perform spatial and tabular data analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Computer Science, Remote Sensing or related field.
  • Experience working with ESRI products including ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, Arc Enterprise, Field Maps, and Survey123.
  • Proficiency writing Python and Arcade scripts to extend GIS functionality.
  • Ability to independently prioritize several projects, issues, or requests simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices.
  • Understanding of GIS best practices for data management, documentation, and security.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
