The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe and effective nursing care to all patients utilizing the nursing process. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for the direction and supervision of assigned personnel in the delivery of patient care. The RN will be responsible for prompt intake of Urgent Care patients and moving them to the Emergency Department if their acuity level is too severe for the Urgent Care setting. The RN works closely with the mid-level provider with initial injury care, physical exams, treatments, and preventative health measures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: |
- Determines the priority of data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs
- Collects pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques
- Involves the patient, significant others, and healthcare providers in data collection, when appropriate
- Ensures that the data collection process is systematic and ongoing
- Documents relevant data in the medical record according to hospital standards
- Evidences the knowledge and ability to assess and interpret data about the patient’s growth and development in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, where appropriate.
- Analyzes the assessment data in determining the patient’s health problems.
- Identifies expected outcomes and individualized care to the patient
- Performs treatments or nursing procedures in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the use of equipment which is used on the nursing unit
- Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate physiology, pathology, and psychology when teaching the patient and/or family
- Identifies need for change and initiates these to enhance the quality of nursing care.
- Trained and proficient in the use of Magruder Hospital electronic medical records system.
- Functions as communication focus during emergency situations, stat requests, and orders.
- Places call to ancillary departments, physicians, other institutions as directed by nursing personnel or physician.
- Assists other staff when possible. Floats to other areas as assigned; responds to floating requests with a positive attitude.
- Provide safe, efficient, courteous initial assessment and intervention of the clients upon presentation to the Urgent Care/Occupational Health Department.
- Regulates the flow of clients in the Urgent Care/Occupational Health Department.
- Follows hospital policy and procedure.
- Communicates all pertinent patient care information and general environmental information to the charge nurse, unit manager, or other unit staff.
- Attends educational meetings, completes annual competencies and online training as required
- Attends staff meetings
- Assists in peer interviewing as needed
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
