Staff Geotechnical Engineers
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Duties: Perform geotechnical engineering activities. Coordinate the observation of field explorations and construction projects, ensuring that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications as well as in accordance with safety guidelines. Complete detailed, accurate field reports and assists with coordination of field exploration programs. Assist with training junior technical and technician staff. Support project management tasks such as budget planning, general field report reviews, and proposal development. Manage small projects under the supervision of a certified professional engineer or scientist as required. Gather field data and field samples for related projects. Coordinate samples for testing. Support the completion of permit applications, habitat/site characterization, field surveys and delineations according to appropriate federal and state guidelines. Complete engineering analyses and/or calculations within assigned discipline. Develop moderately complex conceptual models (i.e. numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling, etc.) under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Prepare deliverables such as memos and reports and provide occasional quality assurance/control support. Ensure that deliverables are submitted to the project manager in a timely manner and are completed as estimated. Complete moderately complex spatial analyses (e.g. contours, clipping, buffering). Develop project-related deliverables related to GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data such as maps, database organization, etc. under the supervision of a licensed engineer. Assist project team members in making basic design decisions from detailed criteria provided by a senior engineer or project manager. Assist with the generation of technical reports; complete portions of technical reports and generate figures, tables, charts, etc. Domestic travel to project sites may be required up to 10% of the time.
Requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering field and 2 years of experience as a Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Engineer, or in a related geotechnical /civil engineering occupation. Experience must include 6 months of experience working with MathCAD, ArcGIS, GeoStudio Suite, FLAC, MODFLOW, Plaxis, or other software related to the discipline of geotechnical engineering. The position also requires the completion of coursework (at either an undergraduate or graduate level) covering soil mechanics and foundation design.
All education, training and experience may be gained concurrently. Applicants must be U.S. workers (includes U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees.
