As the Senior Staff, Communications Manager – Policy Communications, you will lead Aurora’s efforts to communicate our position on the policies, regulations, and societal impacts shaping the transportation industry. You will develop and execute integrated strategies that drive impactful media coverage, influence policy outcomes, and strengthen our reputation. You’ll work at the intersection of policy, media relations, and storytelling—helping ensure Aurora’s voice leads the industry conversation.
In this role, you will
Storytelling & Policy Narrative
- Build and lead integrated campaigns that connect Aurora’s policy positions to broader societal benefits, ensuring they are central to Aurora’s overall brand narrative.
- Develop a wide range of policy-focused content including press releases, op-eds, blog posts, bylined articles, talking points, briefing documents, and reactive statements.
Media Relations & Press Coverage
- Secure high-quality press coverage in priority markets and top-tier business, technology, policy, and trade outlets to shape the policy conversation around key company priorities.
- Cultivate strong relationships with journalists covering technology policy, regulation, and public safety.
Policy Communications Advisor
- Serve as a communications advisor across government relations, product, and marketing communications, ensuring aligned messaging that advances Aurora’s business and reputation goals.
- Translate complex policy and regulatory issues into accessible language for broad audiences.
Collaboration
- Partner with stakeholders across legal, government relations, product, safety, and marketing communications to develop and execute integrated campaigns that reinforce our industry leadership.
- Identify communication gaps and proactively design approaches to address them, influencing cross-functional priorities when needed.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of communications experience, including deep expertise in policy, regulatory, or public affairs communications.
- Proven ability to design and run multiple, multi-channel campaigns simultaneously, balancing short-term press opportunities with long-term narrative-building.
- Experience positioning a company as a leader and trusted voice in policy and regulatory debates.
- Exceptional written and verbal communicator who can simplify complex policy and technical topics into bold, concise, and compelling narratives.
The base salary range for this position is $143,000 - $228,000 per year. This role can be based in San Francisco, CA, Mountain View, CA, Pittsburgh, PA or Washington, DC. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
