About the Department
EXAMINATION SCHEDULE
- Oral exam date will be announced five (5) days prior to the examination.
Examination:
Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose appraising the applicant's training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards:Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university including course work in industrial engineering, environmental health, industrial hygiene, environmental resource management, or a closely related science. AND two (2) years of experience in accident investigation and claims analysis which included preparation and review of accident reports, industrial engineering, safety engineering, occupational health and safety inspections, or loss prevention analysis. Experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Certification as a Board Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) is highly desirable.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is required at time of appointment.
An instructor’s certificate in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation issued by the California Heart Association, American Heart Association, or the American National Red Cross must be obtained within one year of the date of employment.
