POSITION OBJECTIVE
An entry-level hotel maintenance engineer job involves assisting with routine repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance of the hotel's physical plant, including basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks. Key duties include responding to guest requests, maintaining public and guest room areas, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring a safe environment. This role requires strong customer service, problem-solving skills, and the physical ability to perform manual tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Guest Service: Responding to guest maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- General Repairs: Performing routine maintenance and repairs on various systems and equipment, such as basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work. Also performing basic vehicle/golf cart maintenance and repairs. Using a computer or I-phone like device to use our NUVOLA web-based maintenance program for initiating maintenance requests and to report those requests have been resolved.
- Preventative Maintenance: Assisting with scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure optimal functioning of hotel equipment.
- Inspections: Conducting daily property walks and routine inspections to identify and address potential maintenance or safety issues.
- Grounds Maintenance: Performing tasks like painting, patching walls, replacing light bulbs, snow removal to include shoveling or plowing with a vehicle, raking leaves, picking up dead tree limbs or small tress, trash removal of site trash cans or at Town Homes, and general upkeep of common areas.
- Safety: Adhering to all hotel safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe environment for guests and staff.
- Equipment Monitoring: Monitoring and maintaining hotel equipment, including Fire Life Safety Systems, Building (HVAC) Automation Systems, kitchen and laundry machines, ice machines, and pool equipment.
- Record Keeping: Completing maintenance request forms and logs.
- Work Area: Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required.
- Experience: Previous experience in general maintenance, construction, or a similar environment is often preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting and use of computers and taking notes.
- Customer Service: Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Professionalism: Maintaining a professional appearance, attitude, and commitment to teamwork.
- Experience: Some entry-level roles may prefer general maintenance experience or relevant technical training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and move throughout the property, including guest rooms, public areas, mechanical spaces, and exterior grounds.
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle tools, operate controls, and make repairs.
- Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and work from heights as needed for maintenance and repair tasks.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl in tight spaces.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; occasionally heavier weights with assistance or equipment.
- Must be able to work with exposure to variable weather conditions, noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical equipment.
- Requires sufficient vision and hearing to detect equipment malfunctions, read gauges and instruments, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work varying schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts, as required by hotel operations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work in extreme cold, stormy conditions such as rain/snow storms or hot weather for extended periods of time.
- Frequent exposure to noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical systems, and HVAC equipment.
- Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, paints, solvents, or other chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines and MSDS procedures.
- The role requires adherence to strict safety procedures, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with OSHA and hotel safety standards.
