McMaster Children’s Hospital, located in Hamilton’s west-end, is the second largest children’s hospital in Canada. We are home to the fastest-growing kids-only emergency department in Ontario, one of Canada’s most advanced neonatal intensive care units, and a range of programs and clinics with unique expertise in a number of areas including children’s cancer, digestive diseases, and mental health. The Diabetes-Endocrine service supports patient care in the areas of the pediatric emergency department, inpatients and the outpatient clinics. 
 


The Pediatric Cardiology Clinic - 2G Pediatric Echocardiography Lab provides echocardiography services for all children in McMaster Children's Hospital, as well as outpatient referrals from the region.  The service settings include the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Level 2 Nursery, 3B, 3C, 3Y, 3Z, Emergency Department and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The echocardiography service is dynamic and fast-paced, providing specialized acute care for children in a family-centered environment. This position is a Pediatric Echocardiography.  The current facility has >2,500 studies per year, including fetal, newborn, pediatric, and adolescent patients.

Monday to Friday, days. Evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Registered with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO)

  • Registration in Pediatric Echocardiography is preferred

  • Current (Cardiac) credentialed member of Sonography Canada and/or ARDMS

  • Minimum one (1) year of recent experience (in the last two years) in pediatric echocardiography with neonates, infants and children

  • Demonstrated skills in performing fetal, neonatal and pediatric echocardiograms

  • Knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiac structure and function

  • Knowledge of common congenital heart anomalies and their pathophysiologic consequences

  • Familiarity with current echocardiography machine and probe technology

  • Ability to supervise and train other echocardiography sonographersAdvanced level of responsibility including triaging and prioritizing of studies

  • Advanced skill in performing complex studies independently

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain statistical data for analysis

  • Knowledge of performance of echocardiography studies in stressful situations with critically/chronically ill children

  • Commitment to ongoing professional education and upgrading of skills

  • Familiarity and experience with specialized procedures (trans esophageal echocardiography and fetal echocardiography)
