About the Department
General Description
The Maintenance Worker position in the Port Everglades Operations Division in the cruise terminals performs custodial duties in and around the cruise terminals, sets-up/breaks-down furniture and equipment for events, and operates the passenger loading bridges. This job class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks with the guidance of the Maintenance Crew Supervisors and Skilled Trades Supervisors responsible for the cruise terminals.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months in maintenance or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License based on area of assignment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Preferences
Passenger loading bridge certification or 1 year of experience operating a passenger loading bridge
CPR/Bloodborne Pathogens Certification OSHA I and OSHA II
International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association Certification (IJCSA)
Position Duties
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Promote SunSational Service and focus on providing a hospitable environment for facility users.
Prepare and open cruise terminals, secure terminals at the completion of usage.
Perform a variety of custodial duties to maintain a clean and safe environment for the public and County employees. This includes cleaning cruise terminals, offices, bathrooms, breakrooms, and adjacent exterior grounds such as sidewalks and pavilions
Position and monitor loading bridges for passenger boarding and disembarking.
Safely and correctly operate various equipment such as loading bridges, forklifts, scissor lifts, buffers, burnishers, power washers, blowers, vacuums as required. Use ladders, cleaning tools and products, and motorized tools and equipment as required.
Move and set up/break down furniture/equipment for events or meetings in and around the cruise terminals; this may include hanging banners and decorations.
Identify and report maintenance related issues through supervisory chain.
Prepare various logs documenting work activities, tracking equipment usage etc and provide summary information through supervisory chain as required.
Participate in daily safety briefings.
Use hand held devices, computer, radio, cell phone, and other electronic equipment to track work, communicate with others, and complete work assignments.
The first point of contact with the public and/or other County employees, resolves day-to-day operational issues, and collaborates with the Customer Relations Specialists and Harbormasters.
Perform related work as assigned.
Must be able to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
