Position Summary:

This position is responsible for a variety of accounting and administrative functions, as well as following proper accounting procedures. Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, this position implements and maintains internal controls to ensure the safeguard of the organization’s assets.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cash receipts processing, including investigation and answering inquiries
  • Work with Philanthropy Department to ensure that donors receive accurate gift acknowledgements
  • Accounts Receivable processing and account balance maintenance
  • Accounts payable processing and follow up with vendors as needed to include
  • Review all incoming invoices for proper coding and approval
  • Verify that invoice has not already been paid before entry
  • Match receiving, purchasing, and vendor invoice documents for all food purchases
  • Credit card coding and entry into accounting software
  • Collect receipts and match them to statement
  • Code expenses per chart of accounts and budget
  • Enter purchases and payments into the accounting software


  • Enter other journal entries as requested
  • Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, excluding fixed assets and inventory
  • Maintain adequate documentation for all financial transactions
  • Process bi-weekly payroll and prepare appropriate payroll reports
  • Prepare grants financial reports
  • Assist with preparation for the annual financial audit, IRS Form 990, and budget
  • Assist with inventory, grants, capital campaign, events, and other initiatives
  • Make recommendations to the Accounting Manager
  • Administrative and other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Significant experience in Accounts Payable and Disbursements
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in accounting
  • Understanding of accounting principles and general ledger transactions
  • Experience with financial system software; NetSuite preferred
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, and organization
  • Good reasoning ability and sound judgment
  • Commitment to fulfilling Feeding NEFL’s mission and positively representing the organization both internally and externally 
  • Highly developed oral, written, and advanced computer skills
  • Must have attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with background noise and interruptions

Work Environment:

This position is in an office/warehouse environment and requires a flexible schedule and travel to accommodate FNEFL events. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to all weather conditions. In instances of a federal, state, or local declared emergency, FNEFL is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.
