LOCATION: Grand Rapids, W.A. Lettinga Campus

REPORTS TO: Director - Accounting / Financial Manager

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing general accounting functions relative to the business transactions, analysis, and data reporting of the University while ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and timely. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the University’s mission, vision, and values which include diversity, equity, and inclusion.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares month-end journal entries to record transactions, revenues, assets, and liabilities.
  • Performs month-end-close for monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Maintains the fixed asset ledger including records of asset additions and disposals.  Assesses appropriateness of depreciation expenses and monitors the performance of fixed asset inventories.
  • Reconciles and records assets and allocates back interest income to appropriate accounts.
  • Responsible for cash, payables, receivables, and fixed asset reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Reviews and records bank reconciliation statements.
  • Prepares schedules related to year-end audits.
  • Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies.  This includes NCAA, GLIAC, and national affiliations associated with athletics or other role-specific regulations.
  • Provides GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or 3 or more years related accounting-related experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and positive reactions to change and conflict resolution.  
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and relate well to students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated motivational and problem-solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university.
  • Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain). Some travel between locations is required (own transportation).  
  • No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.  
  • Must be able to work an irregular schedule, evenings or Saturdays as needed, additional hours during peak times, or as required.
