What’s the job?

We’re seeking a Chef to lead kitchen operations at our Leura campus while providing a hands-on, supportive environment for students completing their practical training.

Reporting into the Operations and Applied Training Director, this role is responsible for the preparation and service of meals, maintaining high food quality and hygiene standards, and mentoring students rostered into the kitchen. You’ll play a key role in ensuring students gain practical exposure to the standards, workflows and expectations of a professional kitchen brigade.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead day-to-day kitchen operations including menu planning, preparation and service of meals.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and OH&S compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor students in their practical training, providing feedback and guidance on professional standards.
  • Support food and beverage management in staff development and contribute to campus events involving the kitchen.
  • Assist with ordering, stock management and stores coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, HACCP, TEQSA/ASQA, ESOS and RTO standards.
  • Uphold Torrens Global Education policies, procedures and code of conduct.

We are looking for

  • Strong previous industry experience and currency in a commercial kitchen.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (advantageous).
  • Demonstrated production cooking experience across a la carte and function work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proactive, highly motivated and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer focused with strong service delivery standards.
  • Team-oriented, with the ability to work effectively with staff, students, suppliers and guests.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office.
